An inexpensive kit to demonstrate the theory of waves. Comprises one large demonstration transverse wave machine, which consists of 80 arms spaced on a nylon line. The transverse wave machine provides an example of transverse wave propagation in which the movements of the rods create the waves. This can also be used to show the superimposition of waves, amplitude and decay, stationary waves, modes and harmonics, reflection and transmission. The waves are actuated by hand. The loaded elastic cords can be used to illustrate transverse wave motion and for comparing the effects of different wave parameters such as the average mass per unit length, cell size and tension.. |
